Definition
- Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is the most common form of vasculitis in children.
- A small-vessel vasculitis mediated by immunoglobulin (Ig) Acontaining immune complexes and characterized by nonthrombocytopenic purpura, abdominal pain, arthralgias, and renal disease
- Diagnostic criteria published in 1990 by the American College of Rheumatology state that if ≥ 2 of the following are present, sensitivity and specificity for HSP are > 87%.
- Palpable purpura
- Initial presentation at ≤ 20 years
- Bowel angina
- Typical biopsy findings
