Amphotericin B

Dosage

Amphotericin B deoxycholate

Intravenous

  • 0.25–0.5 mg/kg/day initially; increase as tolerated to 0.5–1.5 mg/kg daily
  • Infuse as a single dose over 2 hr
  • 0.5–1.0 mg/kg weekly for suppressive therapy

Intrathoracic

  • 0.025 mg; increase to 0.5 mg, twice a week

Amphotericin B lipid complex (Abelcet)


  • 5 mg/kg daily IV, infused over 2 hr
  • Experience with drug in children is limited.
  • Limited or no information about use in newborn infants is available.

Amphotericin B cholesteryl sulfate complex (Amphotec)


  • 3–6 mg/kg daily IV, infused at a rate of 1 mg/kg/hr
  • Experience with drug in children is limited.
  • Limited or no information about use in newborn infants is available.

Liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome)


  • 3–5 mg/kg/day IV, infused over 1–2 hr
  • Experience with drug in children is limited.
  • Limited or no information about use in newborn infants is available.
