AAP Releases Influenza Statement for 2010-2011

August 30, 2010
The AAP policy statement, "Recommendations for Prevention and Control of Influenza in Children, 2010-2011" is now available. This statement updates the current recommendations for routine use of trivalent seasonal influenza vaccines and antiviral medications for the prevention and treatment of influenza in children.

The AAP recommends annual trivalent seasonal influenza immunization for all children and adolescents 6 months of age and older during the 2010-2011 influenza season. Unlike last year, only a single vaccine is being manufactured for the current seasonal influenza vaccine schedule. The 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) strain has replaced the 2009 seasonal influenza A (H1N1) strain in this 2010-2011 trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine.

Up-to-date information, including the new 2010-2011 influenza policy statement, AAP implementation guidance, and the 2010-2011 vaccine dose algorithm, can be found on the Red Book Online Influenza Resource page.
